-Early 5G is here and full 5G is just around the corner. Motorola is quick to integrate that revolutionary technology early on, along with the revolutionary folding screen tech that makes the old new again.

-The following is more of a first impressions of the new 5g foldable, than a full on review, so it will be short and sweet. I’ve had my TMobile variant for about a week now and here are my thoughts.

-Working in the phone industry, I’ve seen my fair share of boxes/packaging. This is one of the coolest if not “THE” coolest package I’ve ever seen. I was very impressed. Not only do you get this creative over the top box, but the stand the phone sits in also doubles as a makeshift “speaker” gimmicky? Yes, yes it is, but also straight up cool.

-You also get a nicely made carrying case seen above. The presentation was executed flawlessly. Kudos to Motorola, you get the Phabletguru thumbs up. 👍

-I’m enamored with this phone to be honest with you. I know it has its flaws and shortcomings. The magnitude of what it gets right far outweighs those few shortcomings. The nostalgic meter is through the roof.

-It’s not perfect, nor is it anywhere near horrible, but what it is, is novel…bleeding edge novelty to be precise. Combined with the nostalgic pull makes the Razr 5g an attractive device. The pros and cons will be disclosed in the full review. Modeled after the Razrs of yesteryear, the folding/flipping aspect of the experience is silly funky fresh as we used to say.

-This is a head turning phone, you know the one you pull out and unfold around other people who turn their heads to see what kind of phone that is with a folding display. In other words the shock value is priceless and worth the asking price in my opinion.

-The price for this phone is rather steep. The specs and processing power (though adequate) leave me wanting. The camera might also be simply adequate. It’s too early to give a full review in regards to the camera or performance however. No one is buying this phone for specs though. It’s that folding screen form factor that entices us. That being said, it’s superior in many ways to it’s first generation brother which wasn’t 5g.

-This phone is quite possibly the slipperiest phone that ever slipped. Seriously, this will eventually fall out of a countless number of consumers hands and become damaged. On a positive note that outside display is cool and one advantage over the Galaxy z flips outer display if you can call it that.

I wish there was a secondary front facing speaker on that ginormous bottom rounded bezel. That would actually put use to it’s monstrous yet we’ll designed element to the phone. I love the fact that it’s very very close to stock Android and only adds useful things to the O.S..

-I’ve always had a soft spot for Motorola. I mean we owe the existence of cell phones to the fact that Motorola invented them. The shatterproof technology in the Moto z series Which came around first in the Droid 2, was an amazing feature that I wish was still prevalent today.

-The Moto mod innovative technology (from the Moto Z series), which was an amazing novel experience, (I had all of the mods) is yet another thing I wish was prevalent today. The chop chop and the double twist features are things that I miss when I use a different Android phone other than Motorola. Not to mention the innovations in the smart watch field of tech with the Moto 360. This phone delivers that same innovative Motorola touch we’ve come to expect.

-In conclusion, my first impressions are relatively positive. It might be that I’m a sucker for things that are unique and or novel or new. It might be because I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Motorola or it might be that this phone with what it has to offer legitimately left a good first impression. Only the full review will tell. Look how tiny it is when folded (yet still has a good weight to it).

-This concludes our broadcast, you are now able to resume daily functions. Thank you for tuning in until next time this is the Phabletguru saying “never forget the soap” 😉
